First, a QA analyst is a quality goalkeeper in any organization! You all know who developers are. People who are creating amazing applications and websites we’re all using on a daily basis. But in order to use them flawlessly and have a good user experience we need people who can test them and make sure that everything is working as expected. Here is where a QA analyst comes into the picture.
Now, let’s talk more about the main responsibilities of a Quality Assurance analyst. Of course, QA analyst should know how to test and keep software at high standards. But the question is ‘How exactly does he do this?’ One important thing you need to remember is that a QA specialist is the person who establishes a QA process and makes it reliable and efficient, so the company can benefit from it! It is very important because QA specialist is not a tester who simply clicks through the application and looks for issues! As part of the QA process, you will need to understand the requirements which are provided by the customer and also you will have to thoroughly analyze them. For example, customer wants to build an ecommerce website where he will be selling sportswear. You as a QA specialist will need to understand the main functionality of this website (billing, filtering, searching, product display e.t.c) Next, you will have to create a strategy of how you’re going to approach testing. For that you will create documentation such as test plan, test cases, test scenarios. Also, here you will collect the data that will be used during the testing process! For example, credentials you will login with, maybe some billing and mailing information.
And if you are a QA analyst who specializes in automation then here you will have to create a test automation script. Then you will have to execute it. In simple words, test the software based on the test cases you have created. And also here you will report any issues or box you found. For example, search functionality is not working. This is a bot. Usually there are specific tools where you will report your findings such as JIRA or Bugzilla.
Once this phase is done, we’ll have to provide a reporting with our findings to the hire management. And here will be decided when do we want to release the software or go live. And let our customers fully use it. For that as a QA analyst you will have to support the release and help with the preparation of this release. Before it was primarily done during the downtime. In other words, when the users cannot access the software. You might have already experienced this when you are accessing a banking application at night and you simply cannot access it. It says there that application is during the maintenance and it will be available in the morning. But the techworld is evolving and nowadays a lot of releases are done seamlessly. Meaning there is no downtime. This is possible with CI/CD (Continuous Integration and Continuous Development).
As part of your responsibilities you will be also attending different product meetings, working closely with the development and project management team. Also, you will be helping onboarding and helping new QA analysts to get up to speed with the process.
Now you know more about this cool profession and can try it out yourself. On our channel you can find a lot of tips on how to jump start this career. Thank you so much for watching and I will see you in the next video.
