Ballard Chalmers Ltd Managed IT review by Ipes at Qualified. One

Ballard Chalmers Ltd reviewed by Ipes

Ballard Chalmers Ltd provided Managed IT for Ipes with approximate budget = $200,000 to $999,999.

The applications developed have many thousand business users and the long-term partnership partially replaces what would be full-time, in-house staff. New resources are made available relatively quickly, though onboarding could be improved. Overall, the value and quality are both quite good.

Review summary:

Ballard Chalmers has been a development partner for many years, providing expertise in .NET and other development areas.

.NET & Angular Applications for Financial Administrator

Please find under a summary covering project details and feedback. The innate facts are kept as they are, special information is amended.

Introductory information

A fast induction on the buyer’s organisation

Ipes is a special equity finance administrator. We deal with fund directors who buy other companies and then invest in them over a 5-10-year time and sell them for a gain. Fund directors outsource all administration yielding duties to us. I’m the head of IT.

Desired goal

What challenge were you trying to address with Ballard Chalmers?

They have principally done outgrowth labors for us.

How did you come to work with Ballard Chalmers?

I don’t know how that process was owing I was not part of the organisation when they were leading hired.

Provided solution

What particular tasks were responsible for?

We outsource a number of permanent roles to Ballard Chalmers. They’ve written .NET based applications for us. Our main application that we run our complete business on, Capital Tracker, was written by them. They also helped us write a number of applications later on in Angular and others in Microsoft technologies. They also prepare us with database administration labors.

Capital Tracker is where we do all of our administration labors for our clients. It’s an intranet zone web application so it’s not fully unprotected outerly. It allows us to make payments over Swift, do the KYC [Know Your Customer yielding measures] and store the results for our clients and their investors. It also allows us to do all our confide and organisation secretarial work, and all of our client accounting and invoicing. It’s a 3-tiered application. We have our views and those converse to the business logic layer which then converses to the database in the background.

The second major application that they helped with was not designed by them, but they’ve done a lot of the application programming with us. It’s an online method named The ID Register which is an activity yielding gate. It’s aimed at the fund treatment special equity market. The idea is that nation log on and get all of their yielding done centrally throughout the fund administration globe. The fund administration special equity globe is excellently little so there’s only 200,000 odd investors that are verity implicated in it. If they can all have their KYC done centrally it massively reduces the KYC cost for the complete activity. This is written on Angular and hosted on Microsoft Azure. This is a labor that we direct for.

What is the team dynamic?

They prepare principally outgrowth resources, database administration, and database design experiences. We generally hire .NET and Angular developers from them. The number of resources vary but through most of this year, it’s been 3-3 ½.

How much have you invested with them?

The cost varies each year. This year we will bestow near £200,000 [$264,000]. We’ve spent more in past years when there’s been major projects we were working on, but that quantity is a pretty typical year.

What is the terminal result of working with ?

We began working with them in 2010.

Results achieved

Are there any measureable or plum results?

We have 20,000 nimble profiles on the outer ID Register website. It’s only been launched for a year.

The inner applications they',ve developed over the last five years has almost 300 users from our organisation as well as almost 800 outer users.

How did Ballard Chalmers accomplish from a project treatment standpoint?

If we have an idea for a project, we go to their service and have a brainstorming session. The project is run using Agile. We have morning standups and scrum meetings. We run those meetings and their staff is included in our standups. They have their own inner project director who ensures that they’re delivering the resources and deliverables that we assigned to them on time. He liaises with me or whomever the inner project director happens to be at Ipes. I’ve never had any complaints almost their accomplishance. They’re always very changeable when we have an effect and are fast to address it.

Our organisation uses PRINCE2 for our overall project framework, but then within outgrowth, we use Agile.

What is (from your point of view) the key factor to pay observation while intercourse with ?

They help you fetch out the technical elements of your method. We have our own outgrowth team that comes up with the initial technical design. But it’s befit part of our measure process to use Ballard Chalmers as a sounding board for technical designs whether or not we’re asking them to do the work. They quiet come back and help us make sure we’re making the right technical choices. We have done this for a number of years. Geoff Ballard and a couple of other nation about him are especially knowledgeable in the Microsoft stack.

What aspects of their work would you like to get improved?

I feel we could get more reporting from them to see what developers are bestowing their time on. We have an arrangement where we’re managing them slightly anyway, so we do apprehend what they’re doing, but it wouldn’t be bad to get metrics out of them in that area.
