About Corgibytes, LLC PHP Development company in Ashland, United States

We#39;re proud to be menders. We love adding value to software applications through modernization and maintenance. We squash bugs stabilize infrastructures add test coverage refactor document our findings upgrade versions and pay down tech debt with glee.

We joyfully remodel software applications to be more stable scalable and secure.

Software maintenance is celebrated codebases are nurtured to provide lasting value and our clients generate revenue lower costs and reduce risk as a result of our work.

Listening and understanding is at the very heart of our culture and we consider empathy a critical technical skill. Consider the people who are impacted by your work: your clients your users your teammates and even your future self.

Solving problems that seem intractable is a big part of what we do. Maintain an attitude of possibility persevere through challenges and commit to personal growth.

Complex problems require your prefrontal cortex to be engaged. Resist the temptation of an urgency-based culture by focusing on prevention instead of hot-fixes prioritizing self-care and developing a steady working rhythm.

Healthy conflict in a psychologically-safe environment is a critical component of a high-functioning team. We hold each other accountable and strengthen our work by challenging ideas respectfully and directly. Speak up and share your point of view even when its hard.

Effective communication is our cultural glue and it is everyone#39;s job. Produce durable artifacts of your thinking and reject false dichotomies that present code and communication as separate things. No one is technical or non-technical; everyone is both.

Domain understanding is critical and working in a vacuum leads to problems. Before you leap to conclusions take the time to understand the problem and match your solution to the situation.

At Corgibytes we#39;re really good at transforming broken systems. We modernize code through continuous improvement and marginal gains and we apply these same practices to systems of social oppression. Similar to how technical debt makes a codebase difficult to work with there are institutional barriers for some individuals that have accumulated over time. Blindly operating within these structures hurts people and prevents organizations from benefiting from the wide range of perspectives needed to thrive. Theres a lot of opportunity for improvement and we use our core values and our talents as menders to have a positive impact on our society.

As top dog Scott directs the technical and product vision at Corgibytes. His test- and empathy-driven approaches to working with existing software systems help our team effectively modernize even the most complex codebases. Scott is a true mender at heart and a polyglot developer who at last count is fluent in over twenty-five programming languages.

Scotts love of software restoration and remodeling began in college where he and his team were responsible for retrofitting the testing tools for the X-31 jet fighter under some pretty hefty constraints. Where others found frustration Scott found joy. So in 2009 he teamed up with a friend from high school to build a business focused exclusively on software modernization and working with legacy code. Scott enjoys sharing his philosophy of maintenance and has been featured in books such as The Innovation Delusion. He has regularly been invited as a guest lecturer on Continuous Delivery practices at Harvard University. Scott is the author of three courses on LinkedIn Learning: Dealing With Legacy Code And Technical Debt Code Quality and Clean Coding Practices. Scott is the host of the podcast Legacy Code Rocks and enjoys helping other menders find a sense of belonging in a world dominated by makers.

In addition to fixing old code Scott is an avid reader of sci-fi fiction and enjoys spending time with his family and kids.

If you want to help us in our quest to modernize the worlds code check out our current openings and sign up to receive opportunity notifications. Were growing our team and are often looking for people who love working with legacy code as much as we do.

Corgibytes is named after Ein Scotts adorable Pembroke Welsh Corgi. While she passed away after sixteen happy years with us she lives on in the form of our company mascot — wrench in mouth ready to help with any challenge that comes her way. She will always be remembered as the first cheerleader for the company spending countless hours snuggling with Scott and Andrea as they worked to make the worlds code just a little bit better. Bonus points if you can name the anime shes from.

Corgibytes was founded on passion. In 2009 two high-school friends reconnected at their ten-year reunion. Both had big-brand experience but wanted to do something more — to make the world a better place through better software.

In high school Scott spent every spare moment in the computer lab. Before class. After class. On breaks. During lunch. It#39;s no wonder he was president of the computer club too. Scott simply loves writing code and fixing bugs. No seriously. He has a passion for software like some people have for chocolate or cats or garden gnomes.

Andrea launched her business career at the ripe-old age of fourteen when she named her father#39;s printing company. Seeing her ideas splashed all over signage letterhead and collateral had her hooked. When she reconnected with Scott Andrea had already successfully run her own consulting business and worked as the human voice behind some of the world#39;s largest brands.

In 2008 Scott started Corgibytes but quickly found that ’if you build it they will come’ isn#39;t a viable marketing strategy. So he approached Andrea and persuaded her to come on board to lead the company#39;s vision and strategy. Andrea saw a huge business opportunity and wanted to help Scott get his talent into the world. In 2009 the pair joined forces as a business team. They#39;ve been helping clients make the world a better place through software ever since.

In 2011 Scott and Andrea decided to make a commitment to be life partners as well as business partners. In 2012 they welcomed their first baby (who knew the ’sound Darth Vader makes’ before almost any farm animal). In 2015 their second child came along (who is named after two prominent software developers Ada Lovelace and Grace Hopper.)
