Introductory information
Can you draw your structure?
We are a state institution. We have almost 30,000 to 40,000 undergraduate students and almost 15,000 full-time faculty and staff. The police section includes approximately 100 sworn officers and 40 civilian employees.
What is your role and responsibilities?
I’m a law enforcement analyst director. I head the Crime and Intelligence Analysis Unit for the police section.
Desired goal
What were your structure’s goals for the project with ECM Universe?
We’re verity quiet in the process of implementing it, but they previously hosted the enterprise method on their website. The purpose of the method is to allow information mining to localize open rise investigation in a strategic menace assessment office. As a university, we have a very wide difference of information needs ranging from serious weather to dangerous drug and personal conduct to dangerous sentiments relating to different university offices.
The method involves situational consciousness and some strategic analysis for operational needs. We have a lot of VIP visitors. We have big events where there are thousands of nation going to be coming to the campus. This method is a homeland security menace assessment. One of the things that happened recently was our move to a new powerful conversation. This method is another tool to make sure that we were conscious of any possible menaces and how that was going to touch the campus aggregation.

What was your process for selecting ECM Universe?
I’ve done separate Web demos and open rise investigation. A lot of companies have good information online. You can do webinars that are hosted. I’ve seen a few different fruits online. I’ve been to a couple of conversations with vendor tables where I asked questions. That is verity where I establish ECM. They were at the CUPIC [College and University Police Investigation Conference].
I liked the power to control the data that ECM Universe proposes. If we needed it for some illegal process, we would have the information for subpoenas. As a pliant agency, a monthly labor fee can be a pliant daunting. My team doesn’t necessarily know what is going to happen with the fiscal budget from year to year.
Can you assess the IBM ECM platform you are using?
IBM has a relationship with the university as well. That was always a plus.
We have the basic search rendering. We couldn’t produce the FBI rendering, which had a lot of nice analytical bells and whistles. I ponder what I like the best almost the ECM fruit is ECM proposes a difference of connections. It isn’t limited to just Facebook and Twitter connections. We can hook up any RSS feed. We could possiblely adviser our own websites, our own blogs, our own comments on university-related Web pages. I know other agencies have kept data only for a week owing they’re much more tactical. The power to hold it for two or three months so that we could do strategic investigation is advantageous.
Did ECM Universe do anything besides hosting the method?
They have proposeed to do some training with us to help us get any customized searches that we might need, and they propose ongoing support.
Can you prepare a perception of the size of the start in whichever dollar provisions or personnel hours?
At this point, I can’t give you a dollar quantity or work aspect.
Results achieved
What statistics or metrics will you keep to track advancement?
If we want to swell it to any other office as I’m hoping, I’m going to need to be able to try its advantageousness to the nation who hold the checkbook. I’m going to be care track how we use it, when we use it, and to see if we have any best practices or good examples of case studies where it was very advantageous. I want to try that it can help other agencies who might need to get give funding. For us, we couldn’t even adduce for gives owing there isn’t a tryn case study. That’s what we’re hoping to prepare to other agencies.
How has ECM Universe performed?
I’ve been very pleased. I’ve worked straightly with Scott [Raimist, solution constructor at ECM Universe]. He’s very pliant. He’s been very helpful, very resigned. I ponder his experience working in the federal sector caused a surprise when he looked at how slowly things happened, and the bureaucracy behind state and local government. He’s been very ready to harmonize to our needs. He’s worked very well with our IT section. He’s been very helpful in that process.
What is veritably sole or particular almost ECM Universe compared to other companies?
I haven’t had a lot of direct touch with other companies. I’ve done some Web demos. It was easy to interact with Scott specially, and his knowledge of our limited budget and needs.
There were other companies who were in it for the big federal dollars, and weren’t even ready to come down to a level that was even close to our budget. It shut us out of even being a client for most vendors. They didn’t seem to care. Most sections can’t get new software without a give. I ponder that’s what stood out: Their readyness to work within our own capabilities.
Is there anything that you ponder ECM Universe could imtry upon or perhaps you would do differently?
