Founders and partners Matt Makris and Olin Erickson left their consulting jobs at a large big-box advertising organization to start EM Search Consulting. After having spent several successful years at the big-box company Matt and Olin realized there was a better way to serve clients – give them more time and attention. That inspired them to form EMSC.
This certification is awarded to firms that pass Google Partners Certification tests which includes Adwords Analytics and more. It is also based on our spend level and most-importantly overall ad performance.
Matt Olin move into a shared startup space in the River North neighborhood of downtown Chicago IL. Shortly after they hire their first intern who would later become their first full-time employee.
After a year and a half in the smaller River North office we hit critical mass and needed to find bigger pastures which led us to the booming tech-saturated West Loop neighborhood of Chicago. Once we settled in to this office we realized we had already grown out of the space.
As the team grew the office shrunk. We moved into a bigger suite which is where we still reside today.

Taylor is employee lucky number 7 and our Advertising Team Lead helping our clients paid ads flourish and advising team members when needed.
We achieved Google Premier Partner status by surpassing a much more spend and performance requirement. We would later be informed by Google that we were among the top 3% of Premier Partner agencies in North America.

We need more space again! As we continued to grow the need for a bigger space became apparent. In February of 2018 the EMSC team moved to a beautiful new building in West Town. We are all very happy to have a full kitchen sound-proof rooms and a rooftop!

Why EM Search Consulting
His day-to-day routine includes solving complex technical issues for clients and developing creative and tailored digital advertising initiatives. Since 2005 Matt has been a pioneer in website development and user interface design both of which nurtured his current expertise in SEO and digital advertising consultancy. Matts current hobbies include building drones metal work building furniture brewing beer using Oxford commas and being a dad.
Olin is SEMPO certified and has successfully consulted well over 1000 businesses. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Olin is a fan of all things Badgers and Packers and his fantasy football team is often at the top of his league. During the summer you can find him enjoying any of the many festivals Chicago has to offer especially if food is involved.
He chose to focus on digital marketing for its unbiased data and trackable results – digital marketing takes the gray area out of marketing! He now lives in Noble Square and is an avid fan of all things New York Jets Iowa Hawkeyes Chicago Cubs and Hercule Poirot.
He previously worked in Public Affairs for the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and in the print marketing industry. Adrian is a Chicago native and graduated from Washington University in St. Louis. He loves traveling comedy and film and once while hiking in Tanzania was chased by a baby elephant. Adrian can run surprisingly fast when properly motivated.
Alex has over 5 years of digital consulting experience. Alex joined the EMSC team to better serve his clients. When Alex is not working he enjoys playing guitar video games and hanging with his cat Caeli. Alex is a self-admitted coffee snob. He prefers Intelligentsia above all else.
As Senior Content Strategist she works with everything from content creation to reporting and is a certified Google AdWords Specialist. Emma is also the offices Director of Holidays ensuring the stockings are hung and everyone gets a handmade birthday card. Outside of work you can find her searching for the best taco in the city reading about intersectional feminism winning Harry Potter trivia or hosting brunch. Emma also studies improv at The Second City and iO and performs regularly with the all-female indie team Tuna and the twoprov team Canal Yards Project.
At EMSC she finds her favorite tasks to be managing PPC campaigns and making updates to clients websites. Taylor is a certified Google Adwords Specialist a winner of the Google Adwords Bootcamp case study competition and diagnosed iced coffee addict. Outside of work you can find her rewatching Gossip Girl for the 5th time cheering on the Chicago Blackhawks or working on her fashion and beauty blog.
She previously worked in the editorial field but decided to pursue a career in digital marketing due to its ever-evolving nature. Scout is Google AdWords certified and most enjoys working on PPC campaigns. Scout loves traveling podcasts and tennis and is the tallest woman in the office at a towering 55″.
She is intrigued by the dynamic nature of the digital marketing world and is always eager to learn more about what makes it tick. Jane is a certified Google AdWords Specialist and spends most of her time in the office managing paid ad campaigns working to improve her clients SEO rankings and designing landing pages. When Jane isnt at work you can find her searching for a Netflix show she hasnt seen seizing any opportunity to meet new people or spending time at her family cabin.
Erins role is split between creative advertising paid advertising and traditional account management for SEO campaigns. She is a certified Google Analytics specialist who enjoys helping businesses grow in creative ways. She moved to Chicago after graduation but was born and raised a Minnesota girl. Although she loves her Midwest roots one of her passions is seeing the world. She will jump at any chance to hike a mountainside enjoy the day on a lake or eat some quality mac and cheese!
The choice was made to attend ’The Coding Temple’ development boot-camp and soon after graduation Jake found his place here at EMSC. Outside of work you can find him searching the city for a new steakhouse playing basketball or hunting down some live music.
Originally from St. Louis Missouri which really isnt that bad she now lives and works in Chicago. Shes excited to be a member of the EMSC team and continue learning more about the world of digital marketing. In her free time you can find her spending too much time on the couch with her roommates considering takeout or exploring new places around Chicago. Her dream is to visit Banff Alberta. Anyone want to help?
During her time here she has enjoyed learning about SEO and PPC and is always open to learning more. Jenny also majored in Radio TV amp; Film at Wisconsin and in her free time you can find her at the movies binge-watching the newest tv series or obsessing over any dog she meets. She has also taken over the title as the tallest girl in the office (sorry Scout!) at 510’.
