Who I am I am Shahzad Bashir. I am responsible for our vision and strategy and providing leadership to build a company that helps our clients by transforming the legal industry.
What I have done I have almost three decades of experience in legal and financial consulting services, including developing legal/business strategies, law department structuring, benchmarking, performance measurement, lawyer utilization, streamlining processes, and implementing technology.
Who I am I am David Boswell. I lead a team of technology experts who work closely with our technology partners and our law department and law firm clients on the selection, implementation, and effective use of the full range of technologies offered by Morae. I also am responsible for the daily operations of our technology service lines, ensuring that we have the correct people and processes in place to deliver the level of service that our clients expect. I am responsible for leading and developing our service delivery strategy, constantly looking for ways to improve the way in which we deliver services for our clients.
What I have done I have spent nearly two decades working in the legal document and content management space. I have worked in both a technical and project leadership capacity, helping large law firms and corporate legal departments design solutions to improve their information governance strategies. Working with organizations such as BP, Barclays, Fidelity Investments, Freshfields and Borden Ladner Gervais, I have worked with both the business and technical teams to provide guidance and experience to deliver successful projects.
Who I am I am Matt Crocker. I am also responsible for Morae’s go-to-market strategy for sales and marketing. I lead a team of market experts who work closely with our technology partners and our law department, service delivery teams and law firm clients to assess, select, implement, and manage transformative solutions.
What I have done Prior to Morae, I was the co-founder and president of the Phoenix Business Solutions, the world’s largest implementation partner for iManage. Phoenix was acquired by Morae in May 2019. I began my career as a consultant, leading large document and email management deployments, before putting my experience into practice in a commercial role. At the time my primary focus was the account management of large, global customers, building excellent c-level relationships at firms such as Clyde & Co, Herbert Smith, Norton Rose Fulbright and Barclays.
Who I am As the President, Legal Managed Services and Chief Financial Officer for Morae, I work closely with our legal managed services, finance, and accounting teams. This includes responsibility for delivery of managed services as an extension of our law department and law firm clients with solutions that allow our clients to flexibly utilize alternative approaches to meeting their legal and business goals and objectives, throughout the ebbs and flow in workload while reducing overall cost and improving cost certainty.
What I have done I have almost 30 years of experience in finance, management consulting and mergers and acquisitions. I have worked to drive value for companies from small start-ups to large, multibillion-dollar organizations where I was responsible for business strategy, finance and operations. I was also a consultant for the first half of my career, so I understand the needs and demands of clients and how hard our people work every day to exceed their expectations.
Who I am I am Ann Marie Kartsounes and I am responsible for recruitment and retention of our talent. I am also the guardian of our vision, mission and values.
What I have done I have spent more than a decade in human resources and talent development for leading legal service providers. I specialize in developing and executing talent strategies, which effectively meet and enhance business performance through talent management and development, leadership coaching, succession planning and change management.
Who I am As the Chief Revenue Officer, Americas, I lead the company’s Americas sales function as one cohesive team to execute on our go-to-market strategy for revenue growth and expansion of the business.
What I have done I have worked in professional services for nearly two decades, including over a decade at top tier strategy and management consulting firms. Since 2012, I have focused exclusively on the legal market helping corporate legal departments and law firms to achieve digital and organizational transformation. Throughout my career, I have led sales and business development functions and collaborated with well over 100 unique organizations across industries and geographies to exceed financial and operational goals, often by introducing new approaches to common legal and compliance challenges, such as resource flexibility and scalability, data analysis, technology adoption and business value creation.
Who I am I am Joy Saphla. As president, Strategic Solutions, I am responsible for assisting corporate legal departments and law firms with strategic planning for how they can meet their goals and objectives, even through ebbs and flow in workload, by utilizing flexible and alternative approaches that also enable reducing overall cost and improvements in cost certainty.
Who I am I am Matt Anderson and I am responsible for leading the finance and accounting teams at Morae.
What I have done Prior to joining Morae, I have had extensive experience in both finance and management consultancy sectors. My corporate finance experience includes a publicly held SAAS company which specialized in behavioural analytics and a professional services firm that operated in the accounting and the technology sphere. From the management consultancy side, I have worked for Huron and FTI where I was primarily involved in providing providing dispute advisory services to law firms.
Who I am I am Jim Ewing. I specialize in the management and operational excellence of legal and compliance functions.
What I have done I have over 20 years of experience in reshaping the compliance function of some of the world’s largest corporations and creating a new paradigm for managing corporate compliance. In addition to designing critically needed compliance functions, I have developed and implemented programs to address some of the most sensitive risk areas, including anti-corruption, data privacy, records management and money laundering.
What I have done Prior to leading the global delivery function, I was the chief legal officer of Clutch Group, managing the company’s legal, risk, compliance, data privacy and governance functions. Before joining Clutch, I was the Senior Counsel and Global Practice Head of the Litigation & Investigations Practice at CPA Global and responsible for building and shaping that company’s managed review business. Prior to CPA Global, I was a partner at Venable LLP in Washington, D.C., where I worked extensively in all aspects of white-collar criminal defense and enforcement-related litigation, including representing corporations and individuals in grand jury investigations, managing parallel criminal and civil proceedings, going to trial and advising on voluntary disclosure and compliance issues.
Avani Gossai
Who I am I am Avani Gossai. I work closely with the business team to develop policies, practices and guidelines. My responsibilities also include reviewing and advising on client and corporate contracts and managing the day-to-day legal needs of the company to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
What I have done I have nearly 10 years of experience helping Fortune 200 companies and their in-house legal departments solve business problems. Throughout my career, I have worked both at law firms and in-house at public corporations with a focus on commercial contracts, technology and intellectual property. Previously I have served in the roles of Assistant General Counsel and as a member of Morae’s Alternative Legal Services group.
Why I am at Morae During my time as an in-house attorney, I noticed a growing need for companies that provided targeted legal technology and resource solutions. Morae offers such solutions as a one-stop shop. Moreover, I have never experienced an organization so committed to its mission of changing the legal services industry. I joined Morae to be a part of such an innovative team.
Who I am I am KJ Stillabower. I am responsible for leading the corporate technology function that serves all of our business units. I also deliver strategic, custom, technology-enabled solutions to our clients across all of our business units.
What I have done I have spent more than a decade as a technology leader. I have designed, built and deployed big data solutions for large retail, national security, corporate compliance and litigation and investigation use cases.
Who I am I am Bret Baccus. I have more than 25 years of experience serving both law firms and law departments operate more effectively with the use of systems, vendor management programs, process improvement and the most effective use of legal resources based on the risk and complexity of the legal work.
What I have done I have helped law firms and law departments improve their operational and organizational effectiveness through deployment of alternative legal solutions. I have served Fortune 10 to Fortune 1000 corporations as well as small companies to: plan for technology; assess law firm operations and plan for operational improvements; assess law departments in understanding their internal workload, external spend and plan and implement resource allocation improvements. I have worked with both legal operations professionals, general counsels, and law department leaders as they initially move into new positions of responsibility and need help with their departments or need to evolve their department. I was a Vice President at UnitedLex, a Managing Director at Consilio/Huron Legal, a Senior Manager at Arthur Andersen and a Consultant at PriceWaterhouse.
Who I am I am Sinéad Burke. As Industry Expert of the strategic advisory practice group, I advise international law firms and in-house counsel of large corporates on enterprise-wide transformational activities. I help develop a range of unique and innovative solutions that best fit the client’s culture and requirements. I am also a qualified executive coach and provide both coaching and mentoring to senior leadership and legal professionals.
What I have done With an original background in international relations, I have spent the last 15 years in private practice, overseeing and delivering large technology-enabled cases and the past 10 years developing the alternative service practice group of a large international law firm. I was responsible for the creation and strategic management of the group in the APAC region, and set up a number of delivery hubs in Australia and China. In 2017, this work was recognised with a Financial Times Award for New Business and Delivery Models in the Innovation in the Business of Law category. In late 2017, I became Associate Director at Janders Dean International and have provided strategic advice on a number of projects, from creating new fee-earning practice groups for international firms to advising on transformation projects for corporate in-house legal teams. Janders Dean was acquired by Morae in July 2020.
Christopher Cahn
Who I am I am Christopher Cahn. I deliver client and end user-focused solutions that encompass the entire data and contracting life cycle.
What I have done I have more than 18 years of experience assisting global institutions with regulatory change, technology and data-driven initiatives. I have helped clients drive enterprise-level change through the creation of global contracting centers of excellence as well as leading two of the largest regulatory documentation and data remediation efforts in the financial services industry. I have experience in contract life cycle management, tech-enabled contracting and the creation and management of client/contract reference data.
Who I am I am Susan Chapdelaine. I help companies build practical information management and compliance strategies that encompass the entire information life cycle.
What I have done I have more than 25 years of experience in records and information management, practiced at three major consulting firms. I have worked in regulated and unregulated industries including pharmaceuticals, financial services, environmental services, energy and automotive, technology and professional services.
Who I am I am Shawn Christen. I specialize in all aspects of information and discovery management ranging from assisting clients with responding to requests from internal investigations to external regulatory, compliance, enforcement, subpoenas, commercial litigation, and complex data analysis. I assist clients by maximizing workflows, processing efficiencies and leveraging the latest tools and technologies to meet their discovery demands in a timely, efficient and cost-effective manner.
What I have done I have more than 30 years of consulting and professional services experience in the legal, financial services, health care, pharmaceutical and technology industries ranging from entrepreneurial startups to Fortune 100 clients domestically, as well as working onsite for extended periods of time internationally in Munich, Tokyo, Bermuda and Chennai, India. My experience has ranged from serving in roles as a strategic advisor, business operations manager, subject matter expert and implementer of technology, day-to-day operations and case management, as well as being an expert providing declarations and affidavits when requested by counsel. I have developed and enhanced numerous in-house and outsourced discovery programs by bringing together the necessary resources, processes, workflows and technologies. Doing so has enabled clients to enhance defensibility, increase efficiencies, reduce costs significantly and mitigate risk.
Chris Claps
Who I am Chris Claps. I am responsible for oversight and management of the organization’s business operations to enable client solutions.
What I have done After 10 years in marketing for a leading global mass media company, I received an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Prior to my current position at Morae, I was with Garland Capital Group facilitating growth-focused equity investments in innovative and disruptive companies. I started with Shahzad Bashir, President & CEO of Morae , in the pre-planning for the company and helped open its doors. I have since assisted in growing Morae from a half-dozen clients to the global enterprise that it is today.
Who I am I am Managing Director of Morae in Australia and New Zealand running our regional team out of Sydney. I hold a Masters of Management through Macquarie Graduate School, am an avid Skier and have travelled extensively living for a number of years in Europe and a short stint living in Canada (the latter for skiing)
What I have done I’ve been with Phoenix for just under 9 years having established our presence here in the southern hemisphere in 2011. Previous to Phoenix, I worked for DocsCorp establishing their offshore businesses and prior that the ANZ Bank and IBM. I’ve worked with Legal and Legal Operations Technology for nearly 15 years and been in technology and innovation for over 25 years.
Who I am I am Samir Ismayilov, and I am responsible for all aspects of client service delivery and operations in the Asia-Pacific region.
What I have done I have more than 10 years’ experience in rendering legal and eDiscovery services in the U.S., Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, including advising on complex, large-scale litigation and investigations. I have primarily served global law firms and clients in the financial services and energy industries on high-profile regulatory investigations, utilizing advanced analytical solutions, as well as advising on best practices in eDiscovery and managed review.
Who I am I am Mary M. Jummati. I help improve organizational performance of legal operations with the use of technology. My keen focus on technology as an enabler that requires highest levels of adoption results in increased productivity; better, faster and more reliable reporting; reduced spending; and better risk management.
What I have done I have more than 25 years of experience in strategic planning, leadership, project and program management, software selection, enterprise software implementation and change management. I have significant experience in managing complex global programs and large operating budgets, aligning technology and business goals and actively mitigating and resolving risks. I adhere to a hands-on, team-oriented approach and a collaborative and decisive issue resolution style. I have directed multiple matter management, e-billing, document management and contract management transformations for large corporate legal departments. I have also led the business workstreams and partnered with technology vendors on complex systemwide deployments, including multiple legacy systems and unique business unit and practice area requirements.
Who I am I am Laura Jungels, and I am responsible for client service delivery globally across our eDiscovery and Managed Services teams.
What I have done I have advised clients and overseen our service delivery teams through all aspects of litigation and investigations to ensure that critical information is identified and communicated to clients, allowing them to evaluate and mitigate their risk. I have managed large-scale matters including financial market abuse probes, global FCPA investigations and multijurisdiction product liability matters. I have significant experience leveraging technology to drive efficiencies, improve quality and reduce risk and costs for clients, and I have created presentations that have been used to argue for and defend the use of predictive coding in court hearings and in meetings with regulators.
Who I am I am Patrick Kellermann. I am responsible for all UK Managed Services and eDiscovery with a focus on the application of subject matter expertise and advanced analytics in delivery.
What I have done I have managed the full life cycle of complex investigations and litigations involving benchmark manipulation, anti-competitive conduct, mis-selling, bribery, sanctions and employment or commercial disputes. I regularly serve as a subject matter expert to global financial services firms in investigations or change management engagements. I have developed workflows for the strategic deployment of advanced analytics with a special concentration on machine learning in eDiscovery.
Who I am I am David Malkinson. I deliver solutions to Legal teams and Professional services firms, using technology to helping firms be more efficient, and ensuring their data is more secure, better managed and understood.
Who I am I am Jim Neath. I assist corporate legal departments and law firms with strategic planning for litigation readiness, investigations, and related discovery processes for responding to complex matters such as multi-party high-stakes lawsuits.
What I have done I managed complex corporate litigation and investigations for more than three decades, including 25 years as a senior legal executive for BP, where I led the company’s global litigation portfolio, including as associate general counsel where I led BP’s response to the Deepwater Horizon Gulf Oil Spill. At BP, my role included spearheading a variety of multidisciplinary strategies in response to some of the nation’s most significant corporate legal crises, investigations and transactions. I also developed and implemented state-of-the-art internal corporate discovery capabilities, policies and programs and built innovative internal processes to streamline law department operations.
Who I am I am Justin North. As a Managing Director in the firm’s Legal Managed Services group, I work with our clients on global transformational projects to help drive meaningful improvement and lasting change. I have in-depth expertise and understanding of private practice and corporate legal management needs and challenges, as well as a strong command of the commercial levers of a successful law firm or legal function, and regularly undertake behavioural studies focused on the psychology and unique motivations of lawyers in different peer groups and practice areas.
What I have done Prior to joining Morae I was the founder of Janders Dean, a leading independent legal industry management consultancy, which was acquired by Morae in July 2020. Over the past 20 years, I have been honoured to advise the leadership teams of the world’s largest law firms and corporate in-house legal departments on their resourcing, technology, knowledge and innovation strategies. I have worked with clients across the United Kingdom, Europe, North America, South America, Africa, India, Australia, and the wider Asia Pacific region, and have always tried to use our superpowers for good.
Who I am I am Priti Parekh. I am responsible for managing and growing our footprint in India and APAC in order to provide strategic value to all the business lines of Morae.
What I have done I am a managed services specialist with more than 25 years of experience helping large multinational corporations like Siemens, HP/EDS/Mphasis and Moody’s establish and manage large outsourcing operations around the world. My experience has been largely working with financial services companies in the areas of IT, ITES, knowledge and data analytics. I have run operations in India, the U.S., the UK, China, Costa Rica and Sri Lanka. Prior to joining Morae Global, I was the Senior Managing Director of Moody’s Analytics Knowledge services, managing its research and analytics business with more than 2,500 analysts.
Who I am I am Heidi Rudolph. I assist General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officers with legal and compliance operations.
What I have done I have worked with law departments for over 25 years, including 10 years as an in-house legal operations professional. I understand the balance of keeping up with global compliance requirements while appreciating the practicalities of in-house resources and budgets. With the increased focus on compliance program needs, I have helped develop and implement legal and regulatory risk assessment programs as well as pragmatic third-party diligence strategies. My approach combines process discipline with legal judgment and recognizes the realities of today’s fast-moving corporate world.
Who I am I am Carolyn Southerland. I help corporations address the issues surrounding the preservation, collection, processing and production of electronically stored information in litigation and investigations.
What I have done I have spent almost 20 years developing processes and strategies in the electronic discovery arena, including establishing procedures for gathering electronic data, searching and culling that data and managing the review and production of electronically stored information. I have assisted many of the world’s largest and most-respected corporations in this area.
Who I am I am Meredith Wells, and I support Chief Compliance Officers and General Counsel with the strategy, development and day-to-day operations of legal and regulatory compliance.
What I have done For the last 12 years, I have leveraged my legal background and compliance expertise to design, implement, manage and assess compliance programs for companies of all sizes and industries. I specialize in anti-corruption, including global anti-corruption risk assessments and third-party due diligence programs, as well as in sanctions and trade control efforts. I understand the complexities of bringing legal and regulatory compliance initiatives into businesses and the potential challenges that GCs and CCOs might face in light of competing priorities. I have successfully helped clients tailor their approach to compliance to ensure practical solutions that don’t end up on the shelf, but are rather adopted and effectively actioned.
Who I am I am Rick Wittenbraker. I spent a long career as a Fortune 200 General Counsel and a partner in an Am Law 200 law firm.
What I have done I was Waste Management’s Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer, involved in all aspects of the company’s affairs, including strategy, business execution, management structure, board of directors’ activities, litigation, M&A, finance, compliance and governance. Prior to that, I was a partner at the Bracewell firm, where I was heavily involved in the firm’s senior management and ran its business practice. Over the years, I have also served as trustee or director for a variety of nonprofit organizations.
Who I am I am Mark Woolfolk. I deliver a wide range of creative and tailored legal solutions for law departments.
What I have done I am a seasoned corporate/transactional attorney who has provided strategic legal advice and guidance to a broad range of clients. I formerly was a partner at the law firm of Phillips & Reiter, PLLC, a firm focused on providing outsourced general counsel services. Prior to that, I served as an Associate General Counsel at Hewlett-Packard, where I addressed a broad range of complex legal matters – in commercial and consumer industries – on a worldwide basis.
