I#39;m John Tomblin and I serve as President and co-founder of Sofvue LLC an Arizona company which operates five brands in the marketplace including Data Titan Office Atlas Airwest Drones Building Atlas and High Rise Magazine ( a SaaS application launching in 2021).
I have been immersed in the real estate and technology sector my entire life the first twenty or so years in real estate and last 20 years in technology. I know a unique combination to say the least.
My father was a real estate developer for thirty years. I grew up moving every six to twelve months for the start of Dad#39;s next big project. During summer breaks in junior and high school he put me to work on job sites pouring concrete in the blistering Las Vegas heat working as a carpenters apprentice and learning the trades. It was demanding work but rewarding. I would come home exhausted every day and I could easily sleep 12 hours. I loved it and I gained tremendous respect for the men and women who get their hands dirty and build things. It was also very rewarding to watch an office building spring up out of the ground as if from nothing.
My high school had an architectural design program which I attended for four years convinced I was going to be an architect and earn my AIA certification but at the early age of twenty-two I decided to jump into sales and take advantage of a then booming real estate market. I was blessed to be hired and trained by Gary Keller the founder of Keller Williams Realty. Gary was an incredible mentor. He was amazingly patient and giving and I will always be thankful for everything I learned from him.
I went on to become a licensed broker and state certified real property appraiser and I had my own brokerage and appraisal company for nearly twenty years. I managed hundreds of small income-producing properties and closed hundreds of residential resales. I appraised over 3000 residential homes small mini-warehouses and small retail strip centers. I marketed and sold residential resale and custom homes for six years representing custom and regional home builders including Precision Home Builders and Waterloo Custom Homes.
I taught TAR/NAR courses for the GRI designation for five years and I have two real estate publications to my credit. Perceptions of Value - Real Estate Appraisal Theory and Application a 400 page textbook was published in 1992. A few years later in 1994 I accepted a request to serve as Senior Editor of Texas Real Estate Agency Law a 250 page law textbook published by Dearborn Publishing in Chicago Illinois. Both publications were widely distributed with multiple printings. Texas Real Estate Agency Law is in its 14th edition.
At its core Sofvue is a software and mobile app development company having developed hundreds of solutions across a wide range of industries from education and manufacturing to real estate and insurance. 99% of our business is focused on working with small businesses with less than 200 employees. That#39;s our sweet spot but we#39;ve also developed solutions for large Fortune 500 firms like Fidelity National Title and Alamo Title Insurance Company the U.S.A.F. The University of Texas at San Antonio Heritage Arts Museum and Edvance Research among others.
We are also a data services company. Each of our data services and SaaS applications are designed to streamline information help small businesses grow and recapture otherwise lost productivity and time. Office Atlas our flagship is currently in it#39;s Alpha release and has over 22000 office buildings and 9000 members.
In addition to the consulting educational and software application development I am an occasional moderator panelist and speaker at different real estate and business schools. I#39;ve also been known to opine on the merits benefits and obstacles that accompany many software development projects and how to avoid the pitfalls.
