One of several ’boomerangers’ at Vermilion Susan was a client then joined the staff as a project manager working with clients like Robinson Dairy Allegro Coffee and Spyder Skiwear. After nine years she left Vermilion to join the Noodles amp; Company marketing team where she later served as creative director. Susan returned to the agency in 2011. Today she brings that client-side experience providing strategic direction creative development and account stewardship to guide the execution of integrated communication programs for a variety of clients including most recently 34 Degrees Crisps Zukes Natural Dog Treats and Froozer. When shes not in the office Susan might be practicing yoga or jetting across the country to watch her sons perform in stage plays or hockey tournaments.
Paul brings more than 19 years of account management experience in strategic design and web development. Prior to joining Vermilion he served as an interactive director at the Clorox Company and account manager at Brand Engine in Sausalito. Paul has worked with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation the Mott Foundation the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) the Town of Vail Boulder Valley School District and the City of Boulder. An artist outdoorsman swimmer news junkie and music aficionado Paul spends most weekends biking skiing snowboarding or all of the above.
Connor has roots in both the creative and technical worlds. His interest in web development started in middle school long before HTML5 and CSS3 became standard. After obtaining a BFA in Film Studies and a minor in Technology Arts amp; Media at CU he looks for that perfect balance between beauty and practicality. When hes not hitting the keys you can find him riding his bike up to the viewpoints above Boulder Valley taking a stroll along Boulder Creek or jumping at any opportunity to visit one of Colorados many unique cultural sites (he highly recommends the Colorado Railroad Museum).
A New England Native Sarah began her Account Management career at Grey New York. She may be a Pats fan but Sarah had her sights set on Boulder. Sarah now heads up accounts in both the nonprofit and outdoor spaces including work with Achievement First Community Foundation of Boulder County and passion projects like Protect Our Winters. Speaking of passion when it comes to outdoor adventures Sarahs up for just about anything. When shes not hemorrhaging money at Neptune Mountaineering shes using that gear to climb up mountains or ski down them.
Brittany started out as an artist and quickly found a passion in web development. A graduate of CU-Boulder with a BFA in Interactive Art and BA in Journalism she now specializes in front-end languages responsive web design and rich interactive user experiences. While trained in technology Brittany also enjoys scoping project needs to successfully meet client expectations. She likes to stay busy in the internet of things but can always spare some time for a friendly game of backgammon or foosball.
Thaddeus leads Vermilions strategy discipline uncovering consumer insights and developing strategic branding positioning and communications for clients across Vermilions diverse portfolio. Thad earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film and Animation with high honors from the Rochester Institute of Technology and spent time in casting for reality TV in Los Angeles. Outside the creative studio Thad and his husband spend their off hours discovering all the toddler parenting tropes are in fact true.
Joe has been using computers since he was 5 and hasnt stopped since. For more than 12 years he has been developing for the web and loves all aspects of it; from animations and dynamic content to brainstorming with clients and making sites as cross-platform as possible. When not working he is either playing games on computers he has built or going out to see live music in Colorado.
Mark has more than 15 years of design experience in branding print TV web and packaging having worked extensively with both startups and international brands including Chase Bank and Nestle. Mark received a national ADDY award and his work has been published in both HOW and Print magazines. A Midwesterner who spent a few years in Hawaii Mark spends his spare time with his twin girls or at a workbench where he turns salvaged wood into mirrors light fixtures and other household furnishings.
Devon joined the Vermilion team with over 5 years of brand marketing experience at one of the largest craft breweries in the country. Bringing a wide range of skills he is passionate about building all facets of a brands digital advertising strategy. Raised in Colorado Devon is a lover of all things outdoors. When he isnt in the office you can catch him on the river hitting the trails of Boulder or deep in the mountains with a camera in hand.
Nicole started her career at a production agency in the Chicago suburbs working on brands like Bacardi and MillerCoors. When the opportunity to move to Colorado presented itself she jumped at the chance and pursued a career in brand management at The a2 Milk Company. This dual experience on the agency side and brand side has given her experience in client relations shopper and trade marketing digital marketing data analysis branding and event management. In her free time she enjoys all the typical Colorado activities—hiking camping crossfitting and leaf peeping.
Carly brings more than 13 years Digital Marketing experience to Vermilion. She began her marketing career with St. Martins Press in NYC (working out of another iconic ’Flatiron’) championing digital efforts in a print-dominated industry. An avid live music fan Carly transitioned from publishing to live entertainment where she developed digital communication strategies for Madison Square Garden Radio City Music Hall and the Beacon Theatre. Most recently she managed brands in the professional photography industry but in all honesty shes most excited to talk about her experience as a Peace Corps volunteer in Paraguay. When she isnt geeking out over website analytics shes discovering new bands running or on the hunt for her next pair of red shoes.
Kevin brings more than 15 years of experience in both brand development and design execution. He joined Vermilion in 2006 after honing his craft in San Francisco working for clients including SanDisk Yonex the San Francisco Giants and UbiSoft. At Vermilion Kevin has designed for clients across all verticals including Whole Foods Market IZZE JCs and Via (formerly Special Transit). Kevin recently returned to mountain biking (and promptly injured himself) and hes teaching himself to play the banjo.
Craigs love for food may have led him to the natural products industry but it was his passion for consumer insights and growing better-for-you brands that made him stay. He has worked on every aisle of the store during his marketing career starting in the natural grocery landscape then in-house at 1908 Brands where he helped create and manage six natural CPG brands. After that Craigs love for art and pop culture took him to Kidrobot where he worked with strategic partners including The Met The Smithsonian Andy Warhol Foundation Arte Star In-N-Out Sonic Drive-In and others. When hes not exploring the aisles of a grocery store (some call it research) you can find him exploring Colorado with his mutt Margot reading sci-fi into the wee hours of the night writing in the third person or watching a completely *ahem* normal amount of television.
A writer of words and lover of dessert Sarah started in The Big Apple crafting and executing data-driven integrated campaigns for brands like Unilever Chobani and more. With a background in PR Sarah skillfully blends her earned strategic and creative experience to deliver truly holistic thinking. She moved to Boulder for love only wears plaid on occasion and brings a quick – albeit evenly matched – wit to the Vermilion team as a Copywriter and conceptual thinker.
Before arriving at Vermilion in the spring of 2016 Ian developed interactive campaigns for the New York Rangers the New York Knicks and the NBA and shipped digital products used by nonprofits including The Red Cross and United Way. Ian enjoys working on front-end development using the latest JavaScript tools and incorporating React and ES6. Hes lived on both coasts but his love of snowboarding sunshine beer and baseball made Colorado a no-brainer.
Paul is a user-centric designer with years of experience working with nonprofit and foundation clients. He balances aesthetics performance business goals user needs and constraints by seeking to understand the needs of the design team the client and the audience. Paul uses this understanding to define content architecture and strategy and lay the groundwork for design and development. A native Coloradan and avid outdoorsman Paul can often be found exploring the mountains on foot on skis or on his bike.
Jake comes from a diverse background of active lifestyle companies startups film festivals and nonprofits bringing a passion for design photography and video with him every step of the way. Oh and running shoes because when you worked at Newton Running you build quite the collection. A graduate of Colby College in Maine Jake lived in NYC and small-town CO before settling in Boulder to pursue among other things everything outdoor-related. When hes not at the computer you can (or cant) find him playing in the mountains chasing his Border Terrier or voraciously reading.
Betsy draws upon her experiences as an artist designer small-business owner teacher and administrator to keep things running smoothly at Vermilion. With her unique combination of skills she tends to staff and clients alike as youd expect from her rotating list of titles which includes Chief Officer of Getting It Done Happiness Engineer and Office Mom. Her environmental awareness first bloomed in her early days at the University of Oregon and continues with her work guiding Vermilion on the path toward zero waste.
Mary has professional experience working for both large and small corporations as well as nonprofits. Her wealth of knowledge comes from working for companies like Nobel Sysco Fresh Point Denver Peoples Clinic and Konetics in roles such as CFO and Accounting Controller. Mary has experience managing accounting departments conducting financial reporting and auditing and overseeing insurance and compliance matters. A master gardener and avid painter Mary sells her work at local galleries.
A CU Boulder graduate with a degree in Advertising and Philosophy Jessica brings a unique perspective to creative problem solving. After working at small agencies helping to build brands like Google and the US Holocaust Memorial Museum she jumped to CP+B and managed creative content for Dominos Jose Cuervo and the American Heart Association. Dedicated to affecting change in her community Jess is also a Co-Director of Changemaker Chats which are off-the-record conversations with inspiring women. She spends any remaining free time cooking playing acoustic guitar and ensuring her pet dog and rabbit get along.
Bob founded Vermilion more than 35 years ago and hes been fostering long-term relationships with clients locally and nationwide ever since. Bob has deep roots in Boulders nonprofit community and hes passionate about promoting the arts and sustainability locally. Hes a founding member of the Colorado chapter of the AIGA and he serves on numerous boards including the Colorado Chautauqua Association and the Boulder Chamber of Commerce. Bob is known for attending an alarming number of social events after the office closes a fierce determination to address climate change and an obsession with outer space.
A recent graduate of CU Boulder Armon is both an artist and engineer where he combines his skills in visual design and computer science to create meaningful experiences for web mobile and AR applications. At Vermilion Armon serves as a designer-developer hybrid or Creative Technologist where he bridges the gap between design and engineering. Beyond his professional life Armon enjoys studying typographic design designing his own clothing and practicing martial arts.
