Through skilled volunteers Tax-Aid provides year-round free tax services to strengthen our San Francisco Bay Area community.
We were founded in 1988 by accountants and lawyers who wanted to lend a hand. Tens of millions of dollars in tax refunds later we are still going strong providing year-round expert tax assistance. Click here to see Tax-Aids history.
The most rewarding part of our mission is the appreciation we get from clients. Tax refunds are frequently the largest sums of money they receive all year.
We provide services in several different languages and our volunteers are skilled at interpreting confusing sometimes intimidating tax letters. We are open year-round because people need help with tax issues throughout the year. If you or someone you know needs help click here to learn more.
Our volunteers keep us going! Each year hundreds of volunteers help with everything from greeting clients to providing expertise with complicated tax situations. Many are college students while just as many are CPAs and other accounting professionals. Some of our volunteers have been volunteering with us since the beginning!

Our donors and sponsors make everything possible! Many of our clients have limited English skills or unreliable internet access. They are uncomfortable preparing their own tax returns. Donors and sponsors ensure Tax-Aid volunteers can provide much-needed assistance. During tax season we offer our services at community locations.
