In 2009 when I first started designing as Abuv we were just a small independent study project. The goal was to design a clothing brand based around a mascot that donated 10% of all revenue to charity. As the brand matured and gained traction my list of companies asking for freelance work also grew. Some of these companies included Ubisoft Twitch and Rooster Teeth. As I was freelancing I was also working part-time as a screen printer and a sign maker gaining valuable knowledge about production processes.
Soon my freelance work began taking center stage as my clothing brand took a secondary role. I decided to leave my part-time jobs and shift Abuvs focus into becoming a full service design studio. The goal was to use my knowledge as a designer brand owner and production assistant to provide my clients with the best quality designs and in many cases the highest quality marketing collateral available.
Since switching focuses weve held onto whats important to us by donating to charities and volunteering regularly. Weve gone on to manage projects large and small. Im proud to say that weve worked with wonderful people who are passionate about their work and allow us the freedom to develop creative solutions for their marketing needs.
When I was young I volunteered on my schools Environmental Committee. The school had six acres of land around it all being rehabilitated back to a natural state. We built a wetlands and an amphitheater trails and nurseries all so that the school children could have a better appreciation for the natural environment around them. This has stuck closely with me as Ive continued my environmental stewardship as an adult. Twenty years later I still volunteer at that school to help future generations develop the same appreciation.
I believe as a business we have a responsibility to help educate and encourage an awareness of how we affect the world around us and how we can improve it moving forward. Whether it is making sure were making an effort to reduce the waste we create recycle more or volunteer to clean the local river. There is always something that can be done to help develop a better world for ourselves and future generations.
At Abuv we try our best to use products from sustainably managed forests print with low VOCs and waste as little material as we can. We volunteer with local environmental groups to clean our community build new gardens and help maintain newly planted forests.
We encourage clients and friends to look at what they can do to help their own communities become cleaner and more sustainable. If youre local to us please feel free to ask what organizations wed suggest getting involved with as well. There are many that can always use more help.
