Our clients are faced with tremendous challenges including the ever changing body of IRS HUD RD and State Agency regulations increased government scrutiny tighter fiscal policies and the dynamic landscape of the LIHTC industry. Hello! My name is Greg Stephens and Im an Audit Senior who started with DOZ in 2017. I grew up in OFallon IL near St. Louis and after completing a DOZ internship I graduated with my Bachelors Degree in Accounting from Butler University in 2017. Ive been with DOZ for a little over three years. I think DOZ has a lot to offer for people looking for either internships or full-time: our specialization in affordable housing combined with our workplace culture offers opportunities that are unique in public accounting.
My name is Nawwaf Elayyan. I am from Crown Point located in Northwest Indiana. In 2015 I began my college career at Franklin College where I majored in Accounting and Finance and played football. During my time in college I completed a J-term internship as a financial analyst an internal audit internship at a corporate company and a busy season internship here at DOZ. During the internship I increased my knowledge about accounting and auditing. What really stood out to me in my internship was how willing and selfless the staff seniors and managers were to interns. They truly cared about developing interns to the best of their ability. After graduating from Franklin in May of 2019 I began studying for the CPA Exam in the summer of 2019 and started full time at DOZ in September. I passed all four parts of the CPA exam in May of 2020. Some hobbies I enjoy is spending time with family and friends exercising and cheering on my favorite Chicago sports teams (Bears Bulls and White Sox).
I am an Audit Staff that began my full time career at DOZ in September 2019. I grew up in Carmel IN and graduated college in 2019 with bachelor degrees in Accounting and Finance. In my free time I love to go hiking and camping with my dog and friends. On my first day as an intern at DOZ in December 2017 I knew it was my dream company to work for. I appreciated that the employees believed in us as interns and trusted us with challenging tasks. With the responsibility of completing audits from start to finish putting together financial statements and writing the audit reports as an intern the amount of knowledge I gained in just a few weeks was amazing. It is evident that every person here wants to help you succeed and grow in your career. I could not imagine a better group of people to work with and for.
I am an Audit Senior and a 2017 graduate from Ball State University with my undergraduate degree and 2018 graduate from Ball State University with my Masters in Accounting. I grew up on the southside of South Bend where I picked up my interest for accounting from my Accounting Teacher in high school. My journey with DOZ began in my Sophomore year (2015) when meeting Tim Doyle at the Career Fair. I accepted a Busy Season Internship the following year at DOZ. I went on to complete four more internships during my undergraduate studies with two of them being at DOZ (a part-time Busy Season internship and a Summer internship) and two of them being in Sports Accounting at the South Bend Cubs. ’The sense of family and care that are at the core of DOZ are what eventually brought me to accepting and continuing a career with DOZ.’
Josh is an Audit Manager who began his career at DOZ in 2014. Josh grew up in a small town outside of Fort Wayne IN and graduated from the former IPFW in 2014 with degrees in Accounting and Management. In his free time Josh likes to watch movies practice archery at the range and discover new and delicious recipes to share with his friends and family. ’I wanted to work at DOZ after my very first office visit due to the amazing people I met there. The culture the flexibility and the work have kept me there.’
My name is Axel Doran. I am from a small town in Illinois named Gibson City which is about 30 miles north of Champaign Illinois. In 2014 I began my college career at the University of Indianapolis. There I studied accounting and played baseball. In my college years I completed an internship in corporate accounting and one in government accounting. I graduated from UIndy in May of 2018 and began studying for the CPA exam. I passed all four parts in the summer of 2018 and started my career at DOZ that September. My client work at DOZ since beginning has mainly consisted of audits of for-profit HUD audits and LIHTC acquisition-rehabilitation deals though I have worked on syndicator level audits and consolidated not-for-profit entities. I also serve on the recruiting committee as the School Lead for Miami of Ohio. In my free time I enjoy spending time with family and friends watching sports (Cubs Bears Kentucky Basketball) and playing golf!
Matthew is an audit Staff who started full time in September of 2019 and graduated from Purdue in August of 2019. He enjoys spending time with friends exercising spending time in the outdoors and cheering the Purdue sports teams to victory. Matthew is from Pendleton Indiana and attended Pendleton Heights High School. ’What initially drew me to DOZ was their industry which I think is helping to make our country a better place to live and the work DOZ does in the community.’
My number one goal is centered around being a positive and contributing member of society. The community we live in is invaluable. My passion is not just numbers. I enjoy giving back to the community through volunteer work with organizations such as MD Family Foundation Habitat for Humanity and various animal shelters.
Im an experienced senior accountant in the audit practice at Dauby OConnor and Zaleski. DOZ specializes in various accounting services for affordable housing communities and other real estate entities. DOZ serves industries such as: Low Income Housing Tax Credits Rural Development Housing and Urban Development Not-For-Profit and more.
Jordan is a Tax Staff who graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University in May of 2015. She grew up in Chicago and moved to Indiana for college. She enjoys spending time with her friends and family as well as her dog Nora. Her hobbies include running baking hiking and traveling. ’My favorite aspect of DOZ is the culture and work life balance. Our firm does a great job at caring for their employees as well as their lives outside of work. The flexibility in our schedules allows me to build my career while also being able to go on trips and spend time outside of work doing the things I love.
Taylor is an Audit Senior and has been with DOZ since December 2015. Taylor grew up in Mishawaka Indiana and currently lives in Murray Kentucky. Taylor graduated from Manchester University in 2016 with bachelor degrees in Accounting and Economics. In his free time Taylor enjoys fishing hiking and going on various outdoor adventures. ’When I was ready to start my career I looked for a firm that could offer a life-work balance rather than a work-life balance. DOZs flexible schedule allows me to work the hours that fit my schedule so that I am able to pursue personal ventures I enjoy while still allowing me to grow as a professional. This combined with DOZs culture of caring has made DOZ a greatly rewarding place to work!’
Sammi is an Audit Manager and graduate of Indiana State University (December 2015) who enjoys staying active and time spent with her husband and 2 dogs. She is from Haubstadt in southern Indiana and grew up watching the St. Louis Cardinals and still enjoys taking trips each summer to watch games. ’My favorite aspect of DOZ is the culture and people I get to work with – my friends. My opinion is valued and I feel important and respected at work.’
Elizabeth is an audit senior at DOZ. She graduated from Purdue University in 2014. During her time in college she completed 2 summer internships in corporate accounting and a spring internship at DOZ. After graduating from Purdue she joined a Big 4 firm in Indianapolis but shortly thereafter returned to DOZ. She enjoys spending time with her husband (newly married in June 2017!) her two basset hounds (Bailey and Macy) and the rest of her family who live in Fort Wayne. ’I chose to return to DOZ because even as an intern I felt the impact of the ’family’ atmosphere. DOZ is a firm that truly cares about your professional development AND your personal development and wellbeing. Everyone at DOZ understands that each employee is more than an accountant. We all have families hobbies and interests outside of work and we are given the opportunity to find what we love and pursue it!’
Noah graduated from the Kelley School of Business at IU in 2015. He enjoys playing tennis working for a ministry spending time with family (Fort Wayne) and watching the Bears Cubs and Bulls. Noah has had a corporate tax internship in Chicago a big four internship in Houston a non-accounting internship and the internship with DOZ. ’The internship at DOZ was by far the best experience of all internships that I have had. DOZ provides its interns with significant and important work complimented with strategic and helpful direction from DOZ people. The internship program exemplifies the work hard/play hard motto.’
Cody graduated from Purdue University in 2011 and Indiana Wesleyan in 2016. Cody and his wife (Erin) recently bought a house and added a dog (Marvin) to their family. In his free time Cody enjoys doing anything outdoors including going to baseball games walking the Monon and hiking. ’From the first time I stepped in the door at DOZ I could feel a sense of caring that I hadnt seen at other firms. From staff level to member everyone genuinely cares about the success of others which is fun to be a part of.’
Tim graduated from IU and has over 30 years of experience as a CPA. He is passionate about helping accounting students find whats best for them for an internship or full-time position. Tim finds tremendous joy in life and work and this passion is evident the first time you meet him. Tim is married to Becky and they have a little dog named Bailey that always rides with Tim on his wheelchair when Tim is home. ’I enjoy that DOZ focuses totally on the student or recruit first and then introduces our culture of caring that permeates all aspects of DOZ.’
Kraig graduated from Ball State University and is an Audit Manager at DOZ. He spends his free time rooting on his favorite sports teams spending time outdoors watching movies attending concerts and traveling and is currently in the process of buying his first home. ’I really enjoy the care DOZ puts into relationships with staff clients and others in the industry to continue to grow our influence the right way.’
Carrie is an audit manager at DOZ. After graduating ISU in December 2008 Carrie chose to complete an internship with DOZ after coming to an office visit and meeting the employees of DOZ. After seeing women who had been promoted up to the Member level meeting multiple employees who were generally all around her same age and DOZ having an open door policy and laid back atmosphere Carrie knew DOZ would be a great fit for her. (And being able to wear jeans to work was a major plus for her!) Since starting DOZ in 2008 Carrie has gotten married (to another Sycamore alumni) and they have 1 son together (Aaron). ’When Im not busy adjusting to parenthood and keeping the new little guy entertained my husband and I enjoy watching all kinds of sports together.’
Derek is a senior manager in Dauby OConnor amp; Zaleskis Tax Department. He has been with the firm since 2012 and in public accounting since he graduated from Manchester College in 2007 where he was a four year member of the mens basketball team. Derek and his wife Sarah Hammond (Conwell) who is also a Manchester alum welcomed their first child Harvey in December 2015. Most of Dereks time outside of work is spent with family and friends but he also enjoys playing sports and investing. ’DOZ has been and continues to be a great fit for me both personally and professionally because of the challenging work opportunity to grow and the commitment to give back all while providing a positive life/work balance.’
Rob graduated from UIndy in 2012 and began working full-time at DOZ shortly thereafter. Rob was quarterback of the UIndy football team when he was in college. In July 2016 Rob was engaged to Sadie Brock a Physical Therapist and also a UIndy grad. ’DOZ has given me great opportunities to expand my knowledge while also allowing me to pursue hobbies outside of work. The flexibility at DOZ allows me to volunteer as an assistant football coach at Bishop Chatard High School.’
Jacob graduated from Purdue in December 2000 and remains a loyal Boilermaker to date. Jacob is married to Megan (also an accountant) has two children Aiden (7) and Noah (4) and two cats who are named after accounting/auditing related terms (’what else do you expect when two accountants are married? Ask me there is a whole story behind this’). Jacob enjoys spending time with his family and coaching his kids soccer teams. ’Why DOZ? For me its the people and the ability to help them learn and grow both professionally and personally.’
Farrah is a graduate of Butler MPAcc program (and also a Butler undergrad) who loves outdoor activities such as camping and canoeing. She is also a huge animal lover and Indy-Car fan. The reason why Farrah loves Indy Car is because her great great grandfather won the Indy 500! ’One of the many reasons I enjoy working at DOZ is my ideas are valued and I get to use my creativity to make improvements at the firm.’
Samantha is a 2014 graduate from Miami of Ohio and a Staff Accountant with DOZ. ’My favorite part of working for DOZ is all of the opportunities available to give back to the community. I grew up in Middletown Ohio and I just got engaged on my birthday this past June :). I love to work-out and attend concerts.’
Cory is an Audit Senior at DOZ. He graduated from Indiana University in 2013 and has been with DOZ ever since! His interests include rooting for the Dallas Cowboys reading John Grisham novels and hanging out with his fiance Kelsea and their Golden Doodle Reggie (named after the great Reggie Miller). ’I chose to work at DOZ because I truly believe the culture at DOZ is different than any other accounting firm – How? Well the culture is open and inviting and the people are selfless and focused first on developing others rather than pursuing their own self interests.’
Sarah is a 2012 graduate of IUPUI and Audit Senior Manager at DOZ. Sarah grew up in Indianapolis and enjoys giving back to her community. Currently she is the Treasurer of the Indiana Ballet Conservatory and volunteers every weekend at Indy Humane. In addition to giving back to her community Sarah enjoys spending time with her friends family and pets hiking spinning and learning new ways to stay active whether its a new DIY project at home or fitness class. ’I chose DOZ (and choose to stay at DOZ) because of the people I work with and DOZs passionate focus on community involvement. I wanted to work for a firm that wanted to hear what I had to say and where I could use some of my talents outside of accounting.’
Austin is an Audit Senior and has been working for DOZ for 3 years upon graduation from USI in 2014. Austin was born and raised on the east side of Evansville. He is an avid Cubs Colts and Pacers fan and enjoys playing basketball running and grilling. ’I chose DOZ because being a part of this firm allows me the freedom to grow personally while continuing to expand myself as a professional. It truly is a team effort at DOZ affording me time to do what Im passionate about outside of work and the opportunities to constantly improve my skill set as a professional. Being a part of this team is incredibly rewarding!’
Michael graduated from Ball State in December 2007 and is a Principal in the DOZ Audit Department. Michael and his wife Janna Turner (Marcus) who is also a Ball State alum have two children Brooklyn (3) and Brady (1). Michael enjoys spending time with his family and this summer finished coaching Brooklyns t-ball team. He also enjoys supporting his beloved Chicago Cubs. ’I changed my major multiple times in college before settling on accounting. DOZ sold me on their culture and opportunities during the interview process and I have not looked back. I enjoy servicing my clients have made a lifetime of friendships with fellow DOZ staff and enjoy the flexibility in my schedule to participate in on-campus recruiting at Ball State each year.’
Summer started at DOZ in 2012. She went to Ball State University and started her career at a big-four accounting firm but quickly realized that DOZ was a better fit. Summer is married to her college sweetheart and has a 2-year-old named Mason. In her free time she enjoys weekend get-a-ways church events jogging and spending time with family. ’I love DOZ because of the people and culture and because I have a challenging career that is also flexible!’
Jack is a graduate of Purdue University (B.S. 09) and IUPUI (M.S.A. 12). He is an enthusiastic and optimistic follower of Purdue sports Cubs baseball and his own golf game. He enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife (Marie) son (Ryne) and dog (Beans). ’As I complete my fifth year at DOZ I think the aspect of my job that has had the most profound impact on me is relationships. Whether Im collaborating with a supervisor or intern I feel appreciated supported and respected. I truly love the people Ive had the opportunity to work with at DOZ.’
James started with DOZ in July of 2009. He is currently a Manager in the DOZ Audit Department. James is also a HUGE Notre Dame Football fan and tries to attend as many games as possible. ’DOZ is a great place to work. It offers many opportunities for growth and has a great culture. During 2015 my wife (Jessica) and I decided we wanted to relocate to our hometown with our two young children (Kennedy – 2 amp; Camden – 1). DOZ has allowed me the opportunity to work out of my home (which is about 2 hours from the office) while coming into the office on a limited basis. This has been a great opportunity for me and shows the progressive thinking of the leadership of the firm.’
