President and CTO
Luis earned his Bachelors degree in 1996 from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and his Ph.D. in control systems at the University of Notre Dame in 2004. His research focused on cyber physical systems and more specifically the control of large networks using dynamic models. Shortly thereafter Luis founded EmNet to study and develop solutions to optimize the operation of complex wastewater collection systems. EmNets Real Time Decision Support System technology helps utilities maximize the use of existing and future infrastructure to reduce combined sewer overflows volumes and frequencies.
Senior Vice President and Enterprise Architect
Tim received his bachelors degree in economics from Bluffton University and his MBA in Sustainable Business from Presidio Graduate School in San Francisco in 2009. After a career in sustainable investment management Tim became a cleantech entrepreneur and venture capitalist focusing on water and renewable energy technologies. Tim joined EmNet in 2013 to expand the company#39;s reach and impact by building partnerships with municipal utilities and their consultants. Tim leads the companys strategic vision for growth and client relationship development.
Lead Optimization Strategist
Tim earned his BSCE from the University of Notre Dame in 2003 and his MSCE from Notre Dame in 2006—one of a handful of ’Double Domers’ working at EmNet. Tim has developed a number of tools for real-time control real-time decision support systems and real-time monitoring systems. He has extensive experience in managing multidisciplinary teams that involve hydraulic and hydrological modeling real-time control and complex computing platforms. Tim has worked in providing solutions for water collection system for over 15 wastewater utilities.
Director of Operations
Carrie received her bachelors degree in psychology from the University of Iowa. After working in both the education and biotech fields Carrie joined EmNet in 2007 to oversee office logistics. Carrie has since expanded her role to create the Human Resources Department formulate company policy and manage operations to meet objectives for growth and profitability.
Project Innovator
Patrick Henthorn is a Project Innovator at EmNet. Before this position he was the Assistant City Engineer for the City of South Bend Ind. focused on water and wastewater projects and implementing the Citys CSO program. His passion is to integrate technology with conventional infrastructure solutions to optimize the operation of the whole water and wastewater system. He is a graduate of Trine University (formerly known as Tri-State University) and is a licensed Professional Engineer.
Client Program Architect
Dax earned his BSCE from Ohio University and his MSCE from The Ohio State University. He started his career as a consultant developing infrastructure master plans to address community needs water quality and compliance for drinking and clean water utilities throughout the Midwest. For the past 12 years Dax has been a leader for two public sewer utilities including 10 years leading the sewer and storm water utility for the City of Columbus the 14th largest city in the U.S. He has extensive experience planning and overseeing the design and construction of massive capital improvements including tunnels treatment plants and green infrastructure. Dax has leveraged extensive modeling work and control strategies to save nearly $1B in capital improvements to meet consent order mandates.
Lead Software Development Engineer
Fred earned his BSEE from the University of Notre Dame in 1974 and his MSEE from Notre Dame in 1981. Fred develops real-time application and systems software for EmNet. Prior to joining EmNet Fred designed software / firmware / hardware for various real-time process monitoring and control systems including factory-automation and digital dashboard instrumentation for large trucks and buses. Fred ran his own engineering consulting firm for 15 years. He has also taught engineering and programming courses at Notre Dame Purdue University (South Bend) and IVY Tech.
Control Theory Architect
Alireza Partovi received his bachelors degree with second honors in Iran and earned his MEng from the National University of Singapore in control system engineering. Ali is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Notre Dame. He is working on the control of distributed systems focusing on task decomposition problems in multi-agent systems. Ali joined EmNet in September 2014 to assist with the development of distributed real-time optimization frameworks which help in reducing combined sewer overflows.
Director of Field Services
Jeremy is an expert in deploying distributed sensor networks. Before EmNet Jeremy was a telecommunications field technician and mechanic in Afghanistan where making things work right the first time was not only challenging it was imperative. Jeremy also leads a great deal of EmNets new sensor network hardware and software development and commercialization.
Office Manager
Kellie greets visitors with a smile manages i-dotting and t-crossing all while keeping the troops in line. Before EmNet Kellie worked in accounting and office management for firms in multiple industries. She enjoys her work at EmNet despite being surrounded by scientists and engineers (read geeks).
Strategic Innovation Engineer
Ruben obtained a Ph.D. in environmental engineering from the University of Florida performing research in urban stormwater control. He has studied novel stormwater control methods to mitigate thermal pollution at the parking lot level using alternative pavement materials and parking lot design strategies. His interest in green infrastructure continued as a postdoctoral research fellow at the EPA where his research included performance studies of pervious pavements and the development of low cost environmental sensors for both stormwater and wastewater applications. His involvement in high frequency sensor monitoring programs has led to an interest in developing monitoring strategies that provide useful data while minimizing impact on construction timelines.
Lead Strategic Collaborations and Program Management
Elena received her BS in civil engineering and MS in civil/environmental engineering from Nizhny Novgorod State Academy of Architecture and Civil Engineering (Russia) in 1997 and her MPA from Indiana University in 2008. Elena has over 20 years of experience in environmental engineering utility systems planning design management and optimization. Most recently Elena led the System Modeling and Asset Management team supporting cost effective asset management optimization and strategic planning in one of the largest utility companies. Elena is dedicated to the development of effective engineering and data driven decision making for the benefit of the communities.
Project Manager
Jon earned his BSCE and BA from the University of Notre Dame in 2014 and went on to earn his MS in the ESTEEM program at the University of Notre Dame in 2015 focusing his masters thesis on green infrastructure entrepreneurship. He is motivated in his work by a desire to use engineering and entrepreneurship to serve environmental stewardship and the common good. Jon participated in a one-year fellowship at South Bend start-up enFocus working with local clients including the City of South Bend Office of Innovation and the St. Joseph County Department of Public Works. Jon joined EmNet in May 2016 to manage client relationships and help the company scale its real-time monitoring system services to meet a growing demand.
Infrastructure Engineer
Nick earned his Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from Valparaiso University in 2016. He has always enjoyed hiking camping golfing fishing or most any activity that will allow him to be outdoors. Nick is a Smart Infrastructure Engineer at EmNet where he applies his passion for innovation to bridge the gap between existing conventional infrastructure and technology in the pursuit of improving the environment.
Hydroinformatics Engineer
Bryant obtained a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and an Environmental Engineering M.S. Degree from the University of Cincinnati. He has worked with and has done consulting for many progressive utilities around the world to provide sustainable and economical solutions to their unique and challenging problems. Bryant joined the EmNet team in April of 2016 to expand modeling efforts. As a Modeling Engineer Bryant builds and tests models and implements intelligent controllers to increase collection system performance using his computer programming background. Bryant is an expert rock climber and takes his abs very seriously (read: semi-maniacal).
Hydroinformatics Engineer
Adam is civil-engineer-software-developer hybrid with a passion for building tools uncovering hidden efficiencies and finding innovative data-driven approaches to solving important problems. Adam joined EmNet in 2017 where he combines his hydraulic modeling experience with a passion for software development and data science to protect waterways and save cities money. Before joining EmNet Adam worked in his native Philadelphia as a consultant supporting the city#39;s green infrastructure and flood mitigation programs. When he#39;s not building neural networks and swooning over data visualizations Adam can be found volunteering contributing to open-source and lounging in his beloved hammock.
Project Manager
Maria received her BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Notre Dame in 2014. After working as a design engineer she returned to Notre Dame and earned her MS in Environmental Engineering in 2018. Maria taught a project-based engineering course at Notre Dame while conducting her graduate research focused on neighborhood scale stormwater management strategies emphasizing green infrastructure and community engagement. Through her work as a Project Manager at EmNet Maria is dedicated to human centered engineering design and the use of innovative technology to strengthen communities.

Tyler is a native Michiana resident and hardware tinkerer enjoying anything that involves the cutting edge of computing power and technology. Tyler deploys distributed sensor network devices and ensures these systems are achieving high uptime rates so clients can extract maximum benefit from the BLU-X platform.
