WCP Solutions (Formerly known as West Coast Paper Company) was founded by RA (Dick) Abrams on March 1 1930 selling basic packaging supplies such as brown wrapping paper tying twine and bags to the merchants in Seattles public markets. From the start RA worked with a team to serve customers. Both his wife Amelia and a colleague of RAs were active in the business and focused on creating the customer-focused experience we strive for today.
RA Abrams reputation became the platform for years of growth and success. The company has evolved over the years. Delivering orders out of the back of a Model A Ford doesnt work anymore. But we continue to operate as RA Abrams did –offering quality products at reasonable prices with great customer service and have grown to 14 locations across Washington Oregon California Idaho Montana and Alaska.
As the third generation family leader Teresa Russell stewards the companys operations growth and culture. We invite you to experience working with our outstanding team. We hope that you choose WCP for your order today and as your preferred supplier for tomorrow.
WCP Solutions is a registered mark of West Coast Paper Company
The collection originated with William O. Thorniley (Bill) who from the age of 9 was fascinated by type when he was given a small printing press for Christmas.
During his lifetime he traveled extensively in his job and was always on the lookout for old fonts of type. He traveled from Alaska to New England to the Deep South where he found type used before the Civil War. In California he discovered fonts used during the Gold Rush. He built a print shop in his basement turning his enthusiasm for type into a lifetime hobby.
R.W. (Dick) Abrams West Coast Paper purchased the collection in 1975 but it remained in Bill Thornileys possession until his death in 1979. Dick and Bill both shared a desire to have the collection kept in Seattle serving as an educational resource and honoring the local graphics and arts communities.
The William O. Thorniley Collection of Antique Type resided at the WCP facility in Kent Washington until 2017. In that year the Collection was donated to Pacific Lutheran University to further educate students on the history and importance of printing and type.
Bill Thorniley probably never realized how far-reaching and influential his hobby of letterpress printing would become but today it still inspires those in the graphic arts community.
