Some details
BACKGROUND
Initially, the client came to us with the need to develop a tool that will allow them to collect data from the flow of merchandise effectively and would greatly increase the quality of business-critical decision making. The information that such retail store software would provide them with includes the overall flow of the merchandise on the shelves.
TECH SOLUTION
Only with the help of computer
vision and image recognition, we could train the system to locate and identify the products on the shelves, visualizing it in AR, quantify these products and send the information to the server in such a way that the server-side could read this information correctly and could present it in a report taking into account all of the client specifications.TECHNOLOGIES INVOLVED
Цe used Unity and SDK Vuforia to achieve the most flexible solution possible, i.e., one that can work on both AR-powered glasses as well as on mobile devices. This played a significant role in choosing the tech stack because one of the main requirements was that the solution must support both visualizations mentioned above.
CLIENT RISKS
Without such a solution, the client would run the risk of the system incorrectly identifying the items on the images and would not be able to visualize the reports in AR. Skywell Software played a critical part in the development of the product. Without our involvement, Customertimes would not have received a ready-made solution for the retail industry within the set timeframe.
RESULTS
Our results were beneficial for both the client and retailers:
– For the client, we provided the solution that complements the client’s product which has become a holistic solution that can successfully perform all the necessary functions and can be sold to direct consumers, i.e., retailers.
– For retailers, we created a useful tool that allows them to reduce labor costs. Our solution also took human error out of the equation and sales increased by 2-5% due to timely monitoring.
