Abstract:
Enterprise POS reportportal is web-based data mining &, reporting tool, which will be helpful for easy business intelligence, enables customers to measure, analyze, report and manage his/her business at anytime from anywhere in the world.
The application is above replicating the whole windows-basedEnterprise POS report application into the web-based cloud hosted
application. The cloud-based application is catering to all their customer using the single instance gaining &, giving the benefits of cloud. The application will connect all the POS machines to the server at real time allowing real time import of data. It allows configuration &, management of new customers, debtors, items, users, regions, stores, counters etc. It has a series of robust and dynamic reports and charts where users can create different permutations of values.Client:
Our South Africa based customer is a quality IT provider focusing on the development, marketing and support of complete platforms for the Hotel, Restaurants and Retail Industries. Enterprise POS reportportal is cloud based data mining and reporting tools for Point of Sale (POS) system.
Problem Statement:
Existing windows-based Enterprise POS report application instance is supporting single customer. Hence, not possible for the customer to access this POS report application outside his/her workstation.
There are several drawbacks of existing windows-based Enterprise POS report application:
- Customer has to import the POS machine’srevenue data manually. So, can’t generate a reports of real time data.
- Need to provide every newupdate of application to all thecustomers. So, need more IT resources for application maintenance and installations.
- High cost of maintaining IT support staff.
- Unavailability of revenue statistics graphs.
- Unavailability of real time revenue data ofstore when needed.
- Flat and poor database structure.
Challenges &, Limitations:
- Existing windows-basedEnterprise POS reporting system was very old and no documentation about the system was present. We had to started it from understanding the requirements in detail looking at the code.
- Enterprise POS reportportal was about developing the whole new cloud-based application which caters to all their customers at the same time.
- The next major challenge we overcame was to develop an architecture for a cloud-based application which does not compromising on performance, security and user experience keeping the flexibility intact.
- The application architecture was robust and scalable enough to expand the infrastructure to support the user load of 50+ thousands of users at the same time.
- Designing efficient relational database structure against the existing flat database structure keeping the data size in mind to keep the cost of data under control.
- It was the first project with .net core.
- Develop a service to enable real time data transfers from thousands of POS machines to POS reporting database.
