Lucid Reality Labs developed a cross-platform mobile AR app that allows visualizing 3D models of real ant specimens in augmented reality using a mobile device. It was designed as a companion app for a scientific publication describing six new Strumigenys ant species from Fiji. Each of the six species is represented by a 3D specimen model detailing morphology, and a 3D map model detailing the geographic distribution. The insect… models can be viewed with or without their color texture. A user can view ants as 3D models using 360-degree rotation or in AR mode by placing an ant atop of the scientific publication.
