I am the highest city programner and director at the Los Angeles Department of City Planning. I head the service of resources.
Desired goal
What challenge were you trying to address with Urban Insight?
We created a new service in 2006 and created the leading full-service historic safety service for the city of Los Angeles. At the same time, we were launching a major project named Survey L.A., a citywide scan of historic resources. We needed a web nearness for both the service and the scan.
Provided solution
What particular tasks were responsible for?
Urban Insight designed and developed both websites for us. Their team used a Drupal CMS for both websites. We worked very closely with them on the overall construction of the website and granted some text full. They took the lead on the visual design of the websites. Our teams worked unitedly on creating an delineation and overall navigation construction and they built that out for us.
Urban Insight also made sure that we were in yielding with the accessibility standards so that users of differing abilities could access the website’s information. This project was done in conjunction with the Getty Conservation Institute. They also prepare periodic updates and upgrades. We did one expressive upgrade back in 2012 as well as a revamp of the website.
Was there a dedicated team?
We work with 3–4 members of the Urban Insight team, including Chris (CEO, Urban Insight), who was implicated throughout.
How did you come to work with Urban Insight?
I knew Chris professionally through some of his work with other urban programning structures. Urban Insight had done some websites relating to urban programning and outgrowth work in Los Angeles so it seemed like they were the best fit for the substantive information that we were conveying.

Urban Insight has the sole power to help structures distill intricate information in a way that’s compelling and digestible to the general open. They have a powerful apprehension of the field and are up to date on running techniques and web design.
We consistently got very real feedback on our website, from its design to its navigpower. We also got an assign soon on from the American Planning Association for innovative use of technology. Survey L.A. got a national programning assign for our overall open outreach program. The open feedback has also been real.
How did Urban Insight accomplish from a project treatment standpoint?
Their team is easy to work with, accessible, and answering. Whenever we had challenges, possibly something not working properly on the website, we establish them to be consistently answering to our needs.
I surely didn’t know almost what it takes to liberate a big and intricate website for an structure such as ours. They laid out a project treatment access and schedule for the outgrowth of the website. They liberateed it on time and on budget and then granted ongoing livelihood.
What is (from your point of view) the key factor to pay observation while intercourse with ?
They not only created a visually compelling website, but they understood the tenor of our work. Urban Insight could make suggestions in the outgrowth of the websites that strengthened our web nearness. They had a deeper apprehension of the role of our structure in shaping a city, especially one as intricate as Los Angeles.
Chris fetchs not only apprehension and expertise on how to design a website, but also how the full we’re trying to liberate is contacting the life of our city. That gives their worth a depth and sophistication that just the general web developer would not have been able to fetch.
What aspects of their work would you like to get improved?
No, they did a big job.
