A COLLABORATIVE KNOWLEDGE REPOSITORY FOR HUMAN SETTLEMENTS, TOWNS AND CITIES
THE NEED FOR A CENTRALISED, COLLABORATIVE, INFORMATION EXCHANGE PLATFORM
The Knowledge Exchange is a response to an identified need for increased information exchange in the Southern African region.
The purpose of the Urban Knowledge Exchange is to improve the delivery of better quality human settlements, towns and cities by
making reliable, evidence-based knowledge more widely accessible. The knowledge repository is devoted to promoting innovation and good practice to stakeholders for cities, towns, and villages through various features.
THE CREATION OF FUNCTIONAL TOOLS TO LOCATE AND CONSUME KNOWLEDGE SEAMLESSLY
The repository serves various types of users and stakeholders, ranging from those who are content contributions (authors, editors, academics) to individuals, sponsors and organisations that have a need to find and consume this information.
Various classifications and types of information are available through the repository, consisting of an online library, a knowledge directory, upcoming events, moderated debates, portals, and a sophisticated content uploading facility.
Due to the sheer types of data and a vast amount of information in the portal, it was imperative to design and develop clever tools to search, filter, view and interact with such information. Making the end user',s journey a fast and effective experience, in their quest to easily and effortlessly seek knowledge on the platform.
Segmentation of data into themes and sectors provided a high-level categorisation system that was logical and aided website visitors in locating information specific to their requirements.
A ROBUST CONTENT PUBLISHING ENGINE IS CRUCIAL TO THE SUCCESS OF THE REPOSITORY
The accuracy and validity of the information within the repository are crucial to all parties. Therefore a robust content publishing engine was created to ensure that correct knowledge is rapidly added to the platform. A highly functional moderation and approval workflow system would allow for the processing of this uploaded content and either publish or reject these documents.
A document versioning system was developed to allow content contributors, editors and moderators to manage multiple versions of a content piece.
Wireframing, designing and developing a complex and custom web application of this nature would always be a challenge. Thanks to our years of experience and expertise in creating bespoke web platforms, we were able to guide the client and deliver on what their vision was.
